Oman has had a Thursday - Friday weekend since 2001 but as Saudi and the UAE both have a Friday-Saturday weekend it has meant that not all the GCC nations align for work and holidays. So starting May 1 Oman moved back the Fri-Sat weekend and because no one wanted to work at 6 day week the Sultan gave us all a nice long weekend. To celebrate our usual group of suspects took to Sifah for some beach camping.
With camp set-up Rowan decided to give spearfishing a shot and I tagged along to make use of the GoPro. The result was a fish on the first try but unfortunately the barbed tip came off and the fish was lost on the way in. There was much skepticism amongst the campers about the reality of the "fish" so the video below serves as proof. Probably good considering the blue pigment is an indication of being poisoinous.
With Rowan spearfishing Matt also went fishing but tried for the beach and rod approach. Unfortunately any chances of catching a fish were wiped out by a "friendly" local in his jeep ripping down the beach driving straight through the line
As the night wore on the requesite midnight swim was in order. For those who took the dip we were treated to an absolutey amazing display ocean phosphoresence. Essentially any movement in the water emits thousands of sparkling lights. We tried to film and take pictures and the result as you can see from below is pretty lacking.
